UHC 1.30 released.

UHC 1.30 is released. This is the version that was submitted to the IGF competition (link). Here's a list of the more major changes:

Linux dependencies updated: The game now runs faster on linux, but depends on a newer version of glibc. You will need to upgrade to Ubuntu 9 (or equivalent distribution with the same version of glibc) to play the new version.

Bug fixing with input engine: It was possible before to confuse the input engine by holding down a key while entering/exiting replay mode or starting/finishing a game. Bugs of this nature have been fixed.

Have fun, put Lucifer through the glass!

UHC Reaches Open Beta

Hey all,

In preparation for IGF, Underworld Hockey Club is now in open beta, this means that you do not need to post on the forums to download the beta (although it helps).

Here's a list of some of the features that have been added since 0.8:

OSX SUPPORT:
UHC now works on OSX, making the total support list:
Windows, OSX, Linux 32-bit, LInux 64-bit

BOSSES:
Now if you make it to the final bracket of a tournament, you will face off against a boss.

PERFORMANCE:
The physics performance has increased dramatically and the ragdoll effects are much improved.

CHECK THROUGH GLASS:
If you hit someone at the right angle, you can check someone through the glass. The glass will shatter and the person will be knocked out for a short period of time.

STATISTICS:
If enabled in the settings, anonymous statistics will be collected and they can be used on the website to see who has scored the most goals, made the most checks, etc.

HELP SYSTEM:
There's now an interactive help system to guide newbies through the major parts of the game.

INSTANT REPLAY:
In between plays, instant replays will be shown highlighting exciting moments during the play. During an instant replay, you can hit F11 to capture the instant replay to an avi file on your PC.

*NOTE* VIDEOS NEEDED

I'm making a submission video for IGF that will include in-game footage. If you capture some exciting UHC moments in the replay tool to file, send them to jgmath2000@gmail.com . You might see your video in the IGF submission =)

If you would like to get UHC, check out the download page:

Please post any bugs/feedback to the forums.

UHC Update: Minibosses, stability, and performance

Hey all.

An update to Underworld Hockey Club (UHC) is out for all windows users. I'm in the process of getting UHC to play nice with the latest version of Ubuntu, and as such the linux update is still in process.

Here are the changes with the latest update:

-Blood: Now when demons are hit/explode, blood will pour out of their wounds onto the ice, where it remains for the duration of the match. See a video of this on the UHC website.

-Minibosses: There are now teams with minibosses at the end of each tournament. The minibosses are marked with red names and they have special powers. Winning tournaments now involves overcoming this extra challenge.

-Trophies: When you win a tournament, you get a certain trophy. Once you have enough trophies of each kind, you will be able to fight the final boss. Work on the final boss battle is ongoing.

-Performance: The models have been optimized to reduce the overhead on the processor and the GPU. This should result in improved performance for all who are experiencing frame rate issues. This is still a work in progress, and I hope to continue to improve the performance over the next few weeks.

-Stability: Several crashes have been isolated and removed.

UHC Stability

Hey all,

I've been working on making UHC more stable. This involves running multiplayer matches for days and seeing what effects come out. I've been able to fix a lot of crashing and bugs by doing this.

I also fixed a lot of issues in the multiplayer, including time synchronization issues that were making multiplayer games lag.

I should have a release soon.

UHC Update: particle effects, improved multiplayer, leaderboard

Hey all,

A new version of UHC is out, run the updater to get the latest version. Here's some of the updates in this version:

Particle Effects:
--------------
Ice Mines now explode correctly. You can replay the explosion and other particle effects in replay mode. Movies created in replay mode will now have the particle effects in them. To celebrate this, I tripled the chance of spawning an ice mine, so there should be plenty of gory explosions =)

Multiplayer:
-----------
I'm continuing to iterate on the multiplayer. I decided to relax the bandwidth restriction and now I send more information across, which makes multiplayer games much more reliable. Please try out the multiplayer and post any bugs to the forums.

Multiplayer Servers & Stats online:
------------------------------
---
To try and motivate people to test the online multiplayer mode, I added an online leaderboard. You can now see the multiplayer server info and player stats online. Every time you score a goal in an online match, the goal is tracked. You can see the top multiplayer goal scorers and see what servers are up online.

Here's the site for the leaderboard with the top goal scorers:
http://ucfpawn.homelinux.com/SolarStats/leaderboard/

Here's the site with server info:
http://ucfpawn.homelinux.com/SolarStats/serverlist/

I'm in the process of merging these sites in with the main www.underworldhockeyclub.com site.

The Digitalghost Productions Team.

Digitalghost Productions: Update: Critical lag fix, Special Powers, Cheers

Hey all,

A new version of UHC is out! Here's a list of updates:

Critical lag fix:
The mechanism I was using to sleep the processors was flawed and as a result the game & intro video were appearing very choppy and laggy. The game is now significantly smoother. If you've had lag problems in the past, definitely compare your results to this new version and let me know if it fixes your problem.

Special Powers:
Now there is a "power meter" that charges as you land big hits and make shots on goal. You can see the progress of your power meter on the top-right of the screen. When the power meter has filled up, it will turn into a solid color and that means you can execute a special move when your player has the puck. The special key is mapped to "L" on new profiles, but if you use an old profile, you will have to map the key yourself in the settings window.
At the moment there is only one type of special, "Discharge", that doubles the speed of everyone on your team for a short time.

Cheers:
You can execute cheers to taunt your enemy. The default key is 'E' but you will have to map this manually if you are importing an old profile.

Code Refactoring:
Much of the code for the input engine and the animation engine has been refactored. These are the first steps in putting more elaborate cutscenes and particle effects.

Here are some things to expect in the near future:

New Equipment:
I'm taking feedback for new equipment. I am modeling the equipment and Jared from Pendulum Media is doing the texturing.

Equipment-driven specials:
There will be more kinds of special powers and which one each player has is driven by their equipment. If you wear the right set of lightning gear, you get the discharge special, but other specials will be possible with other gear.

Particle Effects:
I am continuing to develop an improved particle effects engine, but it is currently not mature enough to put in a release.
